An Integrative, Client-Centered Approach

Well-being needs are wide-ranging and, in recognition of this, so is the Thrive Senses approach. The sessions are flexible and always tailored to the individual. Clients book them for a wide range of reasons, including issues related to stress, anxiety, confidence, purpose, coping and general happiness. Together, the coach and client decide how the meetings will progress and this often involves an integrative approach to well-being coaching, utilising aspects of various therapeutic techniques, in a concurrent or cumulative way. These methods can include counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Well-Being Coaching

The main aim of our well-being coaching is to help a client really flourish in life. This is done through various techniques and incorporates the principles of positive psychology, which aim to increase traits like optimism and resilience and, ultimately, assist a client to achieve 'eudaimonia', a state of inner, sustained happiness. This not only helps clients to be more appreciative of life's ups, but it helps to provide strength for life's downs, so that they are buoyant, flexible, reflective and able to view many of life's challenges as opportunities to learn and grow.

During the sessions, aspects of counselling, CBT and ACT may still be utilised to a certain extent, but the ultimate focus is identifying a client's skills and strengths and utilising them to establish manageable goals in order to enhance their physical, emotional and social health.

Counselling

Some clients find a simple form of talk therapy hugely beneficial, so they prefer to incorporate a counselling approach into their sessions. Often, clients are living away from family and old friends which can be challenging and lonely, so they want to talk to someone about their experiences, thoughts and feelings. Others might be feeling overwhelmed, tired, hopeless or struggling to deal with certain aspects of themselves or their life. Letting it out to an empathetic practitioner can provide more clarity, help a client to find effective coping strategies and, ultimately, feel like some of the weight has been lifted.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Some clients may come with specific issues, like stress and anxiety, the intensity of which might warrant special depth and focus. This might necessitate aspects of CBT or ACT. In CBT, the practitioner will help the client to identify unhelpful behavioural and thought patterns, challenge them, and find ways to replace them with more positive and helpful strategies. In ACT, the practitioner will help the client to combine mindfulness with self-acceptance, and live and behave in ways that are consistent with their personal values.

"Why? Because I just love going! It's my weekly treat to myself! Getting things off my chest and working through my worries. It's really helped me cope with living in a new place. I can't thank you enough!"

"I feel like crying writing this, honestly, but I'm so glad I found you. It's such a relief being able to get it all out to someone who's so kind and understanding. `Even though I know I probably cost you a fortune in Kleenex (sorry about that!) You really help me keep things in perspective and make me feel good about myself. I feel stronger every week. Thank you x"
